A word of caution when you purchase used wheels.

I have been purchasing and selling used and restored wheels for about 10 years.  My rant has to do with Perfection.  Nearly everyone selling used wheels thinks theirs are perfect or near perfect, and he or she wants decent money for them (especially on ebay when you must believe what is written). After purchasing hundreds of wheels, I have learned that almost none are perfect. Sure when you roll a wheel across the floor or look at it from above it looks round.  But, put it on a spin balancer or hub, and you will see every flat spot or imperfection.  These imperfections can cause a shimmy, and you can spend many hours and lots of money trying to resolve the problem – a bad wheel.

Unfortunately, most of us don't have the luxury of spinning a used wheel before we make a purchase and must believe the seller. The seller may not even know his or her wheels are out of round – "they just look perfect!"

So what do you do? Either make sure you spin a wheel before you purchase it, don't spin the wheel and pay little for it, assuming you will be sending it out for refurbishing (usually around $100/wheel + shipping both ways), or purchase restored wheels from Aardvarc Racing.

All restored wheels offered for sale at are PERFECT! Restored wheels are spun on a balancer to verify trueness and to make sure there is no run-out. The philosophy is simple.  Sell the best product possible for a reasonable cost.  When you consider all the effort that goes into fully restoring a wheel: stripping, straightening (through heat, formed presses, welding, and/or machining), polishing, painting, and packaging for shipment, the cost is generally pretty good. After all, the last thing we want to happen is for you to return a set of wheels because they are not straight and true as promised. This costs us money (postage both ways), wastes your time and ours, and is not good for business.
